EXPRESSIVE URBAN ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP

FOR WHOM?

Newbies or people who have already immersed themselves in art and want to venture into this free and fun form of sketching.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

In this class we will learn how to make expressive and dynamic urban illustrations. I will give tips on how to approach drawing insitu. We will divide the class into steps so that we can organize our ideas and put them on paper without feeling overwhelmed. This will help us to portray our surroundings in a free and fun way and most importantly, enjoy the process of creating.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

You will learn to release your hand to generate different gestures and quick dynamic sketches.
You will be able to explore new pictorial languages without technical rules to enjoy more the process of creation.
Understand the importance of sometimes breaking the rules of technical drawing, without forgetting it completely.
You will learn how to synthesize the landscape to avoid getting lost in the details and focus on what you are interested in drawing.
I will teach how to divide the drawing process in simple steps for a better understanding.

Graphite pencil (just one)

Watercolor markers

Nathalia is an illustrator and interior designer. She currently lives in Barcelona where she is studying a Master’s degree in editorial and advertising illustration at Labasad. Her work is mostly developed in notebook and plein air, being landscape her favourite theme. She has held sketching workshops and collaborated with brands such as Etchr Studio and Royal Talens.

PROGRAM

12:00 - 13:45 We will explain how to start an urban illustration and how to get ideas. We will do some exercises to warm up and release our hands.

13:45 - 14:30 We will start our initial sketch with a reference image.

14:30 - 15:00 lunch

15:00 - 15:45 We will do some mark making to define shapes of our illustration.

15:45 - 16:45 Continue adding line work and details to our illustration

16:45 - 17:30 We will share the results and have feedback
We will finish combining all this learning in a final finished illustration.
