One amazing week in Brussels!

With a group of wonderful people from Portugal, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Australia, we spent time drawing, diving into comics history, building confidence in visual storytelling, and enjoying our time getting to know people from the local art industry.

That was an incredible experience that we’re definitely gonna repeat very soon!

Day 1

The focus of the day: the magic of comics

Understanding of main comics elements and how space and time works in comics, some fun small comic strips you'll made yourself

Day 2

The focus of the day:
comics as documentation

Visiting The Belgian Comic Strip Center + time for completing the task (and a nice walk around the city)

A lot of knowledge related to documentation in comics, your day documented in comics.

Day 3

The focus of the day: comics as adaptation

Lecture: «Comics as adaptation»

Practice: choosing story to adapt

Understanding what is the difference between interesting and boring comics adaptation, a comic- adaptation you'll make yourself.

Day 4

The focus of the day:
guest day

Guest lecture, visit the artist studio, visiting Musée Hergé

A lot of emotions, a nice walk around the city + some new knowledge from the guest lecturer/artist.

Day 5

The focus of the day: final task

Lecture: «Abstract comics»

Practice: working on final task

A bit of understanding of abstract comics. A finished portfolio of the course and final task.

I enrolled in the course because I love comics and would like to have more courage to make my own.
The bootcamp gave me more than I could ask for. It gave me confidence in my voice as a comics creator and deepened my understanding of this medium. The week was also nicely complemented by museum and studio visits.

Participating the Brussels comic camp was an amazing experience. Our days were very well planned, from the interesting and insightful classes to fun group visits to museums and such done by a amazing team of professional and helpful people. I fully recommend the Comic Camp to anyone who’s interested in learning more about comics and how to make them.

I decided to attend the comics course because I was already making short comics, but wanted to be grow my skills.
I had an amazing week in Brussels. I learned so much from our incredibly talented and inspiring teacher Sofia.
I produced more work than I ever have, or ever thought, I would in a single week and I had so much fun getting to know my fellow students and exploring the capital of comics.
So go! Pack your bags, meet new people who love the same stuff as you and connect with them. Put in the work and come home with tons of new material, skills, knowledge and inspiration for future projects.

Sofia Kolovskaya is an amazing teacher who opened up the world of comics for us. She taught us how to storyboard and develop our ideas, and we came home with several comics that were ready to print. I would recommend this camp to anyone who wants to have fun with other creative people in a cool city.
